２００５年版の「世界のベスト・レストラン」に選ばれたレストランが、食事が不味いとよく言われ悪名高いイギリスのレストランであることが明らかになった。
ロンドンの西、バークシャーにあるレストラン「ザ・ファット・ダック」は雑誌レストランによる２００５年版の「世界のベスト・レストラン50」の表紙を飾ることになった。驚くことに、食事がまずいと言われるイギリスのレストランは他にも１３件ランクインしている。
しかし、批評家はこの結果に対して議論をしていることも確かだ。このリストは雑誌レストランと５００人以上のシェフと専門家によって選ばれているが、食事の良し悪しではなく、食事に行くのに良いレストランのランキングではないかと苦言を呈するものもいる。
50のレストランのなかにはフランスが8軒、アメリカは6軒ランクインしているにとどまっている。アジアに関してはほぼ皆無で、香港のレストラン・フェリクスが49位につけているだけである。
オーストラリアトップで、全体でも4位につけた「Tetsuya's」が気になったので探してみたら、こんな感じでした。Tetsuya Wakuda さんのプロフはこちら。浜松出身だって。世界で4位とはスゴイ。Nobuを超えましたな。
英国BBCが発表した『死ぬまでに食べておくべき食事50』 1位はやっぱりフィッシュ＆チップス
